The Leeds Trinity University opened in 1966 as two Roman Catholic teacher training colleges for Yorkshire - Trinity College for women and All Saints College for men. At the time there was a great demand for new teachers in Britain due to the post-war baby boom. Notable alumni is Jason Alexander McCartney is a former TV sports reporter, British Conservative Party politician and Liberal Democrat politician who served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Colne Valley in West Yorkshire from 2010-2017. Another one is Mark Morris is an English author known for his series of horror novels, although he has also written several novels based on the BBC Television series Doctor Who. He used the pseudonym J. M. Morris for his 2001 novel Fiddleback. And also Shaun William Keaveny is a British broadcaster who presents the breakfast show on digital radio station BBC Radio 6 Music.
